  • Bald River Falls is set to reopen in Tellico Plains, bringing hope to nearby businesses. Crews built a new bridge + restored access for visitors.  10 News
  • On Thursday, Hardin Valley Middle School students and staff held their annual Eclipse Ball to raise money for the American Heart Association during a lunar eclipse. The event featured a game that combined pickleball and tennis — along with a costume contest — to highlight the school’s core values of service, ownership, achievement and respect.  6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South College enrolled over 1,000 students in its innovative competency-based program that lets learners set their own pace— the program president explained the system works like a buffet where each student chooses their own path.  10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Knoxville will use $400,000 from drug settlement funds—dividing it among the police, a nonprofit, and the fire department—to fight opioid abuse and illegal drug activity. The police will use $300,000 to get a new surveillance van and upgrade anti-drug tools, while the nonprofit and fire department will invest in community programs and better emergency care.  Knoxville News Sentinel
  • The Tennessee Valley Authority is replacing the old Kingston coal plant in Roane County with a new energy complex that will run on natural gas by 2027 and add battery storage by 2029—designed to power about 900,000 homes. TVA is now seeking a developer for the battery system as it phases out the coal plant that has operated since 1955.  Knoxville News Sentinel
  • The Ink of Hope Act waits for Gov. Bill Lee’s signature. The bill would require tattoo artists to complete one hour of human trafficking training—helping them spot when tattoos are used to brand trafficking victims.  WVLT 8
  • Knox County Commissioner Larsen Jay kicked off his mayoral campaign on Thursday at Bridgewater Place Event Center at 5 p.m. He is running to replace Mayor Glenn Jacobs whose term ends in 2026—Jay’s disclosure shows he has $286,955 on hand and the primary is set for May 5.  10 News

  • The Heritage Lady Mountaineers beat Portland 60—36 at Middle Tennessee State University on Thursday, marking the first time since 1997 that Heritage advanced past the first tournament round. They will face South Gibson in the Class 3A semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m.  WVLT 8
