CRIME NEWS

  • Knoxville police said a 20-year-old driver in a white Infiniti crashed on I-275 North near Woodland Avenue on Thursday night at 11:35 p.m. when the car sped above 85 mph, injuring four passengers including a 15-year-old in critical condition, and he now faces reckless endangerment charges.  WVLT 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dolly Parton spoke Friday morning at Dollywood during its 40th season opening as pass holders listened to plans for 2025 updates and a new ride coming in 2026—an indoor experience that shows the Smoky Mountains at night. She honored her hometown and remembered her late husband while outlining these changes.  WVLT 8

  • Halls High School teacher Abby Rase is in the running for America’s Favorite Teacher contest—she could earn national recognition if she wins—according to local reports.  WVLT 8

  • Road conditions will be challenging this weekend as ongoing construction projects and downtown road closures for the Knox St. Patrick’s Parade at 1 p.m. affect East Tennessee drivers. Severe storms are forecast Saturday afternoon and evening — with risks of damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes.  6 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Johnson University basketball teams earned at-large bids to the NAIA Tournament, marking their first national appearance since joining the NAIA four years ago. The men's team, seeded 13, played Life University Friday at 1 p.m. and the Lady Royals, seeded 15, faced Freed-Hardeman Friday at 6 p.m.—a historic debut for the school.  WVLT 8
  • Tennessee senior guard Zakai Zeigler broke the school record for most assists in a season during the SEC Tournament quarterfinal game against Texas. He needed four assists to pass Rodney Woods’ mark — and he is now 16 assists short of the career record.  10 News
