  • American Legion Post 2 broke ground on Saturday on a new community building at 5700 Old Rutledge Pike that will serve veterans, their families, and local groups. The center will be finished in the next few months—designed to also educate future generations about service, sacrifice, and citizenship.  10 News

  • Billie Rae's BBQ and Catering opened in 2024 by Eugene Chandler and his wife to honor his late mother's dream—fulfilling her lifelong vision. The business will renovate its East Knoxville location and aims to expand nationwide.  10 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Knoxville Police Department warns residents about scam callers who pose as Knox County Courts representatives by claiming a missed jury summons and bench warrant will be canceled if a fine is paid—residents are urged to verify suspicious calls before providing money or personal details.  WVLT 8

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • TVA started cleaning up Douglas Lake in Dandridge after Hurricane Helene brought a heavy load of debris six months ago; by February, crews had removed 30,000 cubic yards of junk—only a quarter of what remains. Local residents have seen cars, coffins and fuel tanks in the water as cleanup teams work to protect nearby homes and businesses.  10 News

  • Dana Burgess said tailgating on 40 is unsafe from Watt Road to Rutledge Pike through the central interchange, and Tennessee law requires a two-second following distance. Greg Mangan of Drive 4 Life Academy said his school teaches a four-second gap—an approach to help drivers react in less-than-perfect conditions.  WVLT 8

  • The Knoxville Chamber has listed its Market Square office at 17 Market Square for $7.5M as it prepares to move out of its long-time 2004 location — the 19,775 square-foot building is now on the market for new buyers.   • The University of Tennessee baseball team is ranked No. 1 in D1Baseball's poll after setting a program record with 20 wins and completing a sweep of Florida on Sunday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Vols will face ETSU tonight at 5 p.m.— they will close a 10-game homestand before playing a series at Alabama next week.  10 News
