COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Young-Williams Animal Center is offering a name your fee adoption program to ease overcrowding as it houses more than 150 dogs in a shelter meant for 94—interested adopters must apply in person at 3201 Division Street. The center usually sets fees at $40 for adult dogs and $150 for puppies.  10 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Blount County investigators arrested a 14-year-old boy on two counts of aggravated rape of a child after a 4-year-old was sexually assaulted at an in-home daycare on March 17—officials are working with DCS to identify other possible victims.  WVLT 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee Department of Transportation report shows road construction projects will affect drivers across East Tennessee this weekend. In Cocke County, Highway 25-E is closed between Lehigh Road and Hilltop Drive until 6 a.m. Monday—and the airport main entrance is closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. until Monday.  6 News
  • Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti warned against home improvement scams as warmer weather spurred more residents to plan renovation projects. The Licensing Contractors Board received 884 complaints in 2024 and issued over $990,000 in civil penalties to nearly 300 cases — urging consumers to verify contractor licenses before starting work.  WVLT 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tennessee’s men's basketball players Jahmai Mashack and Zakai Zeigler were named finalists for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award—half of the four finalists—and they helped the team beat Wofford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The award winner will be announced on April 6 in San Antonio while the Vols face UCLA today at 9:40 p.m. at Rupp Arena in Lexington.  10 News
  • At the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, special tributes honored the Lady Vols—recognizing their legacy ahead of an upcoming game. The team will take on the South Florida Bulls in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  10 News
