- ➤ Reporter Lexi Lepof is practicing her dance routine with partner Tye for the Dancing for the Horses event on May 9 that will support Horse Haven of Tennessee and care for neglected horses—she is dancing in honor of Malcolm, a 15-year-old rescue from a hoarding case in Middle Tennessee whose adoption is pending. - ➤ Members of the Farragut community built beds for Knox County children in need this past weekend—led by Sleep in Heavenly Peace and the Rotary Club. Volunteers said their work was rewarding and helped ensure children had a safe place to sleep. 10 News

- ➤ The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is helping the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office investigate the deadly shooting of 51-year-old Brian Burton—whose body was found at a home on Big Mountain Hollow Road in Oliver Springs around 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29. WVLT 8

- ➤ Meteorologist Kyle Grainger visited West Valley Middle School’s 7th grade to talk about weather and climate (showing how local changes cause early flower blooming in Great Smoky Mountains National Park) after a climate change lesson. - ➤ Rural Metro Fire in Knox County outside Knoxville will charge nonsubscribers a $600 fee for emergency medical calls starting in April or early May—residents can avoid the fee by signing up for service subscriptions that vary with home size. Knoxville News Sentinel
- ➤ On Saturday afternoon, roughly 50 protesters gathered outside the Townsend entrance of Great Smoky Mountains National Park to support staff facing termination amid federal budget cuts. The demonstrators said the layoffs risk visitor safety — wildlife protection and the local economy — and vowed to continue protesting until further staffing changes occur. 6 News
- ➤ Today, local officials will vote at 5 p.m. in the main assembly room at the City-County Building on a property agreement that will swap school sites and transfer two school buildings to Knox County while a petition urging Mayor Indya Kincannon to run for county mayor has been circulated but she is not running + this week, the city council will meet on April 1 at 6 p.m. to consider proposals to expand festival beer permits and to approve a $75,000 traffic control contract + residents can sign up to speak before the meetings ahead of the Smokies' April 15 opening.
