COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A USDA funding cut halted 21 tractor-trailer loads of food worth $722,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, meaning about 31,000 people will receive less food each month. The food bank is asking for donations to cover the shortfall while USDA will continue supplying food through its Emergency Food Assistance Program—though some deliveries may be delayed or canceled. - ➤ An officer in Sweetwater pulled over a car for a registration check and when driver Nathan Hatfield and a passenger gave false names and fled, police chased them into Knoxville on I-40 eastbound at Hall of Fame Drive where Hatfield was charged with felony evading, reckless driving, possession of meth for resale, tampering with evidence, criminal impersonation and driving on a revoked license—authorities said that over an ounce of meth was thrown out during the chase. 6 News
- ➤ Two men, Treveon Bradley and Jaden Moore, were indicted on charges including attempted second-degree murder and carjacking for shooting a man outside Bucket Head Tavern on Ray Mears Boulevard in West Knoxville on October 15th when the victim said he was hit by gunfire as he was about to give up his money and his car along with three necklaces was taken. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Knox County Board of Education talked about plans to build a new $43.7 million K-5 school at 202 Village Commons Boulevard in Farragut that will serve up to 1,400 students on more than 144,000 square feet. The contract with Merit Construction, Inc. includes street, parking, and playground improvements—and the board will vote on the project on Thursday. WVLT 8
