ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three people died after a plane crashed in Cherokee National Forest in Polk County on Friday — emergency responders found the wreckage and bodies at 4:54 p.m. — the FAA will investigate the crash.  10 News
  • On Thursday evening, fire crews from Rural Metro Fire Department responded to a house on Artekka Drive in South Knox County that was heavily damaged by fire and multiple ammo explosions, and they safely extinguished the blaze while all occupants remained unharmed.  WVLT 8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • PSA Airlines—set to open its 10th maintenance base at McGhee Tyson Airport—will hire 100 workers to conduct comprehensive B check inspections on its fleet. The base will be fully operational by this summer and the company will hold a career fair on April 15 and 16 at Hilton TYS Airport from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  10 News

  • Knoxville Police are asking for help to find 21-year-old Edward Prather from Oak Ridge—he faces outstanding warrants for aggravated burglary, felony vandalism, stalking and domestic assault—and anyone with tips should call East TN Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165.  WVLT 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UT cut the ribbon on its new Alan and Wendy Wilson Communication and Leadership Academy today. The facility is a partnership between the university’s communication college + its college of business aimed at boosting leadership and communication education.  10 News
  • Today students from L&N STEM Academy will showcase their junior research projects as part of the county's 865 Academies program at the STEMPosium event. The event runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. — it will also feature the Class of 2028 School Declaration Ceremony and the National Honor Society Induction.  10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Representatives for Tennessee death row prisoners gave Gov. Bill Lee a letter on Thursday asking him to pause executions until a court review is finished on the new single-dose injection process—advocates say the change makes the method riskier. Executions are set to resume next month, and the request follows a three-year pause and a lawsuit by inmates over concerns of a torturous death.  6 News

  • One Knox SC has sold over 4,000 tickets so far — putting the team on track to host the highest attended soccer game in Knoxville history.  10 News
