- ➤ Newport Speedway reopened today after nearly a decade of being closed due to Hurricane Helene flooding—locals were eager to see the track back, with many arriving early to celebrate the revival. The track, built almost 50 years ago and last hosting a race in 2017, postponed its scheduled race during the floods in favor of a benefit concert for the community. WVLT 8
- ➤ IBEW Local 270 in Oak Ridge installed new lights and scoreboards at the Boys and Girls Club’s Little League fields to enhance game play — volunteers worked on weekends and local leaders Warren Gooch and Terry Frank flipped the switch on opening night when eight teams played. 10 News

- ➤ Last Saturday, the West Hills community celebrated spring at a Dogwood Arts event—organized in part by co-chair Christine Martens—that featured local vendors, artists, live music, a DJ and food trucks. WVLT 8

- ➤ At ORNL, over 6,000 scientists and technicians work 24/7 to run the Spallation Neutron Source—helping researchers study materials like those in lithium batteries and hydrogen. A five-person team monitors the accelerator closely and responds to alarms so the facility can keep running without interruption. 10 News

- ➤ A Montgomery County family is staying at a hotel for Easter weekend & officials said their home is unsafe after a sinkhole opened in the backyard. Roy Nelson explained they got notice with just days to move & a local church helped cover part of the hotel bill while county engineers review repair plans. WVLT 8

- ➤ Knoxville Ice Bears earned a spot in the President’s Cup Finals after beating Birmingham 4-2 in game 3, with two third period goals by Anthony Cinato and Dawson McKinney—putting the team in strong contention for a fifth SPHL championship. 10 News
- ➤ Knoxville Smokies fans used many travel options—walking, riding free shuttles, biking and taking rideshares—to reach Covenant Health Park for the home opener, and several said parking downtown made it easier to plan their trip.
