CRIME NEWS

  • Knox County Grand Jury indicted Savannah Stanley on charges linked to the head-on crash on Schaeffer Road that killed 21-year-old Kylie Roberto, daughter of Councilmember Andrew Roberto, and injured four others in April last year—authorities said alcohol and speed were factors.  WVLT 8
  • Detectives executed narcotics search warrants on April 21 near Gamble Gap Road and Brakebill Road in Tellico Plains and found nearly four grams of fentanyl + over 20 grams along with firearms and other drugs that led to nine arrests at the Monroe County Justice Center.  10 News

  • The Knoxville-Knox County Design Review Board approved a plan from Nick Patel of Turkey Creek Hospitality to build five stories of apartments above retail and a six-story parking garage at 207 E. Jackson Ave.—currently a parking lot near Covenant Health Park. Patel must provide more details on utilities, signage, and design to meet city engineering and zoning codes before final approval is granted.  WVLT 8

  • Yee-Haw Brewing is hosting a benefit concert to support a daughter with Sanfilippo syndrome—a genetic disorder that causes a decline in brain function similar to childhood dementia, with organizers aiming to raise funds for her care and research.  10 News
  • Yee Haw Brewing in Knoxville is hosting the Rally for Rowan benefit concert tonight to raise awareness and funds for Sanfilippo Syndrome affecting 3-year-old Rowan Begbie—tickets cost $15 and an online silent auction will be available for those who cannot attend in person.  10 News
  • Turkey Creek Medical Center acquired a new robotic surgery system that is the first in Knoxville and gives surgeons force feedback to feel the push and pull of instruments. The system also offers enhanced high-definition 3D imaging for delicate procedures—helping improve precision in surgeries such as hysterectomies and prostatectomies.  6 News
