- ➤ Former Knoxville educator and philanthropist Lula Powell passed away peacefully on April 22 at 94 after more than 40 years in the school system—she was the first female principal at Green Elementary School, and a homegoing celebration will be held on April 28 at Rogers Memorial Baptist Church at 4 p.m. 10 News

- ➤ Sevierville man Buddy Livesay was sentenced Friday to 10-year jail after a short police chase ended in a crash on Edington Road in South Knoxville on June 21st, 2024 - he fled on his motorcycle using a fake identity, was found with two handguns, and had a prior felony aggravated kidnapping conviction in Indiana. - ➤ Christian Academy of Knoxville held its prom (April 26) at The Lighthouse in West Knoxville, where students celebrated the night; photos show them dressed up and enjoying the event. Knoxville News Sentinel

- ➤ The spotted lanternfly, an invasive species from Asia, has been seen this spring in Tennessee, and officials urge residents to photograph+report any sightings and to destroy any insects+egg masses to slow its spread. Knoxville News Sentinel

- ➤ Sevier County and the cities of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Pittman Center are joining with state and federal partners to create a Community Wildfire Protection Plan that will lower wildfire risk. Risk assessments will go on until mid-2025 + tailored action plans will be ready by fall with the final plan released early next year. 10 News
