COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Widowed Parent Relief Project held its third annual Family Friendzy this weekend to give widowed parents in Knoxville fun activities and support in coping with loss. Founder Kelly Orrico said the event helped parents feel less alone and connect with neighbors ready to help. WVLT 8
- ➤ WVLT reported an outage at its tower that carries WBXX/CW Knoxville — this disruption has affected service on providers like over-the-air, Dish, Spectrum, and DirecTV and has taken down subchannels such as Story Television, Heroes and Icons and Dabl. Technicians are working to restore service, and additional updates are expected soon. WVLT 8

- ➤ Knoxville lawncare app GreenPal connects 65 local vendors with 3,000 customers to help homeowners get their lawns maintained. Local vendor Carlos Tapia said the app has doubled his regular client list over the three years he has used it. 10 News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Ashley Barnhart-Martin from Dandridge pleaded guilty to one count of TennCare fraud & one count of theft of services on April 25, and she was sentenced to six years of unsupervised probation while ordered to pay over $21K in restitution and fees. 10 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Tate's School in Knoxville is rebuilding after a tornado in 2023 destroyed school buildings (more than 100 trees were leveled) and left the campus with extensive damage. 10 News
- ➤ Former Knoxville educator Lula Powell died earlier this week at 94—she worked in the local school system for over 40 years and was known as a strong advocate for higher education. 10 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TDOT announced that upcoming repairs on I-75 in Campbell County will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction near Exit 134 at mile marker 133 beginning Sunday night and will continue until May 25—crews will work on the bridges over Better Chanee Road and the R.J. Corman Railroad while drivers are warned to expect delays. WVLT 8

- ➤ One Knox played their first home match on Saturday at the new Covenant Health Park as fans filled the Old City for a lively pre-match festival with music and food. The game ended in a tie at 2—2 and the team remains undefeated this season. 6 News
- ➤ Knoxville native Elijah Young, a South-Doyle High School alum who played at Western Kentucky University after three seasons at Missouri, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent on Sunday morning, his school said. 6 News
