- ➤ UT freshman Leighanne Bryant, who began a nonprofit for Gold Star families in high school, said she plans to expand the program’s reach in East Tennessee before she heads home for the summer. The nonprofit has raised about $70,000 and helped fund over $15,000 in extracurricular activities (including karate and soccer) for military children while also offering a one-time $500 scholarship for those aging out of the program. 10 News

- ➤ Nathan Russell, a 25-year-old from Maryville, led Knox County deputies on a chase after a domestic call at 11:45 a.m. on Monday—his vehicle reached speeds up to 95 mph across several roads before crashing into a tree on Alcoa Highway and he was taken into custody on a dozen charges including reckless endangerment and aggravated assault on an officer. - ➤ Knoxville Police Department and Young Williams are investigating an animal cruelty case after a young dog was found killed with a bag over its head outside headquarters, and a nearby witness said the act shows a concerning disregard for life — another dog in the area was found with a bag but without injuries. WVLT 8
- ➤ On Monday morning, KPD began investigating after a dead dog was found with a bag tied over its head in a North Knoxville parking lot around 7 a.m.—the surviving dog was taken to Young-Williams Animal Center and a similar bag was found at the scene. 10 News

- ➤ Advocates are urging the city council to add funding for senior housing amid a growing older population in Knoxville.
