- ➤ Knoxville’s Largest Kids’ Party returns for its fifth year this Saturday at World’s Fair Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.—tickets cost $10 with free entry for kids two and under, and proceeds will support Childhelp’s mental health and safety education programs for children. WVLT 8
- ➤ After their 21-year-old daughter Kylie Roberto—killed in a car crash last April by an alleged impaired driver—died, her family has joined with local groups and Marble City Opera to plan a free Opera In The Park event on June 6 at 7:00 p.m. to honor her love of art, animals, and community. 10 News
- ➤ East Knoxville residents worry about access to fresh produce after the Save A Lot on Holston Drive closed for a remodel because neighbors fear it may not reopen as a grocery store. Pastor Christopher Battle (who leads a local food initiative) said the move could worsen the area’s food desert and food swamp conditions. 10 News

- ➤ Babalu—a Latin-inspired restaurant on Gay Street that has served Knoxville for nearly a decade—will close its doors on June 29, its owners announced. It first closed in 2020 during the pandemic and reopened in 2021 before this final shutdown is planned. 6 News

- ➤ University of Tennessee students are learning hands-on skills by making and marketing ice cream inside the Food Science building. The UT Creamery began production a year ago after an idea started eight years ago and now offers unique flavors such as The Sheriff and Go Big Orange at 2712 Neyland Drive from noon to 7 p.m.—closed on Sundays. 10 News
- ➤ Knox County Schools' superintendent Dr. Jon Rysewyk said the district is preparing for the upcoming school year after Knox County approved a budget on May 20 that allocates 66% to school funding. He noted that new safety tools, a recent security hire, and the start of a $43.7 million Farragut elementary school project are part of efforts to boost student success—steps he believes will make a big difference. 6 News

- ➤ Knox County Mental Health Court gives offenders with mental illness a way to avoid jail time by offering treatment and support instead of punishment. Participant Bryan Lee, who said the program changed his life, is set to graduate in June as county officials note the new plan saves money and eases police work — a promising change for the area.
