GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city reported that milling and paving in the Fort Sanders area began Monday—residents were advised to watch for signs and remove vehicles to avoid towing. The work included milling 9th, 20th, 21st and 22nd Streets and White Avenue, paving Ault Road, and later work on Forest, Highland, Laurel, Clinch and several other roads as shown on a shared map. 6 News
- ➤ TDOT said that ramp closures—7 p.m. to 6 a.m.—on I-40 East to I-275 North Exit 387A, Henley Street to I-275 North, and I-40 West to I-275 North are causing delays in Knox until Friday morning. Drivers should use caution while traveling in the area. WVLT 8
- ➤ The National Nuclear Security Administration will conduct an emergency simulation on June 4th at Oak Ridge security complex near the Y-12 plant. Federal, state, and local emergency teams will work together—testing response plans to protect the public in a real emergency. WVLT 8
- ➤ Knox County Commission is studying new Tennessee laws—aiming to lower fees on sales tax collections and recoup property transfer taxes—to boost the county budget for infrastructure projects. Commissioner Courtney Durrett said the commission will meet with state delegates to discuss these measures in the next legislative session. WVLT 8
- ➤ The State of Tennessee announced that a tax-free weekend will be held from July 25 to July 27 when shoppers can buy clothing under $100, school supplies under $100, and computers under $1,500 — expensive items like jewelry and household appliances will not be eligible. WVLT 8
- ➤ Rural Metro Fire is training Knox County crews to use new wheeled rescue equipment to help injured hikers on rugged mountain trails. The department is also using drones to speed up rescues + plans to fundraise for additional gear in the future. 10 News
