- ➤ Knoxville police booked 21-year-old Ethan Johnston into Knox County Jail on Saturday after U.S. Marshals arrested him in Mississippi following a manhunt, and he is accused of raping, strangling and defrauding a woman at her Cumberland Avenue apartment—he faces charges that include attempted second-degree murder. - ➤ Local law enforcement and state agencies executed search warrants last Wednesday and seized significant amounts of cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana, and unidentified powder—helping lower drug-related deaths by 36% in our region, according to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center. WVLT 8

- ➤ The Tennessee Department of Transportation received $80 million in recurring funds for road improvements and an extra $1 billion to speed up projects. The agency will use the new funds to accelerate planned repairs and safety upgrades on state highways. WVLT 8
- ➤ Mayor Indya Kincannon said the city will vote today on a half-percent sales tax increase that would raise the rate (from 2.25% to 2.75%) to help pay for the Five-Year Neighborhood Investment Plan, which will fix sidewalks near schools, repair parks and greenways, pave roads and build affordable housing.
