COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A stretch of Ebenezer Road between Northshore Drive and Kingston Pike is growing fast with new commercial and residential developments that have led to increased traffic. One local homeowner said residents have raised concerns—especially during rush hour and near Bluegrass Elementary School—about longer delays and speeding that may impact safety.  6 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man died when his motorcycle collided with a truck turning left on North Gallaher View Road near Walker Springs Road around noon on June 12—he was taken to UT Medical Center and no other injuries were reported.  6 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • General Motors announced plans to invest $4 billion over the next two years in U.S. plants—part of the investment will go to the Spring Hill Manufacturing plant where production of the gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer and electric models will begin in 2027. The investment will boost GM’s capacity to assemble more than two million vehicles per year and support local manufacturing jobs.  WVLT 8
  • The Cirrus Aircraft Vision Center in East Tennessee adds strength to Tennessee’s role in national aviation as it showcases new ways to build and fly planes.  10 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Knoxville will observe Juneteenth with several events including a June 14 celebration at Green McAdoo Cultural Center and a parade beginning June 19 that features live music, family activities and history tours—local venues will host activities through June 21 to honor Black freedom and heritage.  Knoxville News Sentinel

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sept. 6, 1955, 85 Black students from the historic Scarboro community joined classes at Oak Ridge High School and Robertsville Junior High in an effort to break segregation.  10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti and Students for Fair Admission filed an anti-discrimination lawsuit against the US Department of Education, arguing that the Hispanic Serving Institution program is unconstitutional because it funds only colleges with at least 25% Hispanic students — a rule that excludes schools like the University of Memphis despite high minority enrollment.  6 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville unveiled its largest exhibit honoring Pat Summitt's legacy, highlighting her 38-year career as a celebrated coach and cultural icon (she led the Lady Vols to eight NCAA Championships). The exhibit (the biggest since 1999) will be officially presented tomorrow.  10 News
