  • Knoxville’s Cecil Webb Community Center got a $1.1 million renovation that reworked its floor plan and updated plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems to improve access and offer flexible space for after-school programs. The center (located at 923 Baker Avenue next to Cecil Webb Park and Dogwood Elementary) now serves the community as a renewed, modern resource.  6 News
  • UT graduates Nick Ambrosetti, Colin and Aaron launched a new app called Out There: Social Events that lists community events equally to help reduce social isolation—now available nationwide with plans to expand to cities like Chattanooga, Atlanta, Nashville and the Tri-Cities.  10 News
  • Beta Theta Boulé of Knoxville is hosting its annual Father’s Day celebration and scholarship brunch today and will honor three men including Maryville College Men’s Basketball coach Raul Placeres. The coach, who has 20 years of experience with 100 wins and three conference championships in six seasons, said building strong relationships helps guide young men—emphasizing his commitment to genuine leadership.  6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Knox County government announced it will soon enter a hiring freeze—pausing new recruitment until staffing needs are reassessed. Officials have not yet provided additional details on the move.  WVLT 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • A veterinarian at Fayetteville Animal Clinic confirmed the first case of deadly bobcat fever in the Tennessee Valley, a disease that can kill a house cat in less than 10 days if not treated early. Vet Zachary Hopkins said early treatment improves the survival rate to about 60% and urged cat owners to use tick control measures — such as topical treatments or collars — to protect their pets.  WVLT 8

  • A Knoxville man is biking nearly 150 miles from Knoxville to Manchester for Bonnaroo for the 11th year in a row. He rides as part of a long-standing tradition that shows his dedication to the music festival.  10 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • ESPN announced Tennessee's 2025 football schedule with kickoff times and TV windows for every game. Two nonconference home games will air on the SEC Network—UAB on Sept. 20 at 12:45 p.m. and homecoming against New Mexico State on Nov. 15 at 4:15 p.m.—while flex game kickoff times will be finalized six days before each contest.  10 News
  • Knoxville native Brady Frederick, who earned SoCon Pitcher of the Year honors, announced his commitment to the Vols on June 11, returning home to pitch at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. He finished 2025 with an 8-2 record and 76 strikeouts, and former Bearden High School coach Dave Prichard said it was every kid's dream — a full-circle moment for the promising pitcher.  10 News
