ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A car crashed into Shannondale Assisted Living Facility on Middlebrook pike near Vanosdale Road early Saturday morning—killing one person and sending the driver to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries—as police continue their investigation.  10 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A federal judge in Nashville delayed a decision on whether to keep Kilmar Abrego Garcia detained on human smuggling charges—he pleaded not guilty while the government says he put the community at risk by transporting undocumented aliens—pending a written opinion.  WVLT 8
  • Two teens—one aged 16 and the other 14—were arrested in Kingston after police responded at 12:35 a.m. to a drive-thru robbery at a McDonald’s when one teen allegedly brandished an air soft gun to a fast food worker, and they now face charges of aggravated assault and underage consumption.  10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 14, protesters gathered in downtown Knoxville to demand a fair process to citizenship in an anti-ICE demonstration—highlighting concerns over current deportation policies.  WVLT 8
  • On Friday evening, protesters gathered downtown to demand a fair process for citizenship and to voice their support for immigrants amid concerns over ICE deportations and the deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles. Hannah Freeman of the Knoxville Party of Socialism and Liberation organized the demonstration at Market Square as the group marched down Market Street while local officials stressed the right to peaceful assembly.  WVLT 8

  • UT Swim and Dive coach Matt Kredich had his contract extended through April 2030 after a season in which the team finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships and earned SEC titles. He has led the team since 2005 and Director of Athletics Danny White announced the news on June 12.  10 News
