- ➤ Alcoa’s FreedomFest returns at the Alcoa Duck Pond on Springbrook Road on June 28 starting at 6:00 p.m. after being canceled in 2024 due to financial issues — the event, which began in 1974, will feature live entertainment, food vendors, a kids’ area, craft vendors, and fireworks. 10 News
- ➤ A nonprofit that helps girls succeed broke ground Monday on a $4.3M building on Virginia Avenue that will bring all its programs under one roof in a 6,900-square-foot facility designed to serve up to 800 girls each year — it will offer mental health support and leadership training. Attendees included Mayor Indya Kincannon, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs, and Girl Talk founder Denetria Moore, and the nonprofit plans a ribbon cutting in June 2026. 6 News

- ➤ Knoxville police said William Fine, 39, died in a motorcycle crash around noon on June 12 when he hit a truck turning left on North Gallaher View Road near Walker Springs Road — he hit another car head-on before being taken to UT Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. - ➤ Knoxville Fire Department responded around 9 p.m. Saturday at Augusta Quarry in Fort Dickerson Park to search for an adult male swimmer who disappeared, with Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad and Blount County Rescue Squad joining the search—while police investigate the incident and warn that entering closed sites is dangerous. - ➤ A Knoxville man will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole for murdering his girlfriend, Madison Johnson, and her friend, Heidi Johnson, at their South Knoxville home in 2023—family members, including Heidi’s sister Cassidy, urged the judge to block parole and expressed relief that the decision prevents further harm. 10 News
