  • A Knoxville business owner teamed up with a local charity & several contractors to install a custom elevator in Conner Hurst's home, giving the paralyzed Powell teen access to his bedroom again after two years.  10 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • TDOT crews are still clearing I-40 at the Tennessee—North Carolina border after a rockslide and flooding forced road closures and are waiting for floodwaters to recede before assessing damage; no injuries have been reported.  10 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A recent report showed that Black-owned businesses in Knoxville are growing slowly despite more than 200 local establishments facing funding and credit challenges. Local leaders and groups like the Urban League help cover these gaps + support future entrepreneurs in the area.  10 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Knoxville man was taken into custody after leading Knox County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. on Mountain Grove Drive — his vehicle crashed into two patrol cars as officers stunned him and he now faces aggravated assault charges.  WVLT 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Zoo Knoxville welcomed a new female African lion named Zahra from the Buffalo Zoo in mid-May—after a 30-day quarantine, she was paired with male lion Maji and the pair are showing promising signs for breeding.  6 News
  • On Thursday, June 19th, the Martin Luther King, Jr. March/Parade and Juneteenth Celebration began at 10 a.m. in Knoxville, starting at Chilhowee Park and ending at Dr. Walter Hardy Park—attendees enjoyed live entertainment, vendors, and musical performances. The event, which celebrated freedom, heritage, and community, also featured the nationally recognized Elite Striders Drill Team from Illinois.  6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Knoxville City Council will consider a resolution at its June 24 meeting that would let the mayor sign an agreement with Covenant Counseling to spend up to $60,000 on counseling services for gun violence victims and community intervention providers—helping families seek support. City officials noted homicides and nonfatal shootings have declined after the city ended its partnership with Turn Up Knox.  6 News
  • The city released new renderings showing Burlington’s $8.6 million fire station, which will replace an 88-year-old building with two truck bays, and a $5.1 million streetscape along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue set to finish by the end of 2026. The fire station will begin construction this summer—community members met on June 17 to review the plans.  Knoxville News Sentinel

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Knoxville area saw strong growth in 2024 as over $1.7 billion was invested in new construction and nearly 5,600 residential units were permitted, with most units located in central Knoxville and Northwest Knox County — a sign of rising demand for housing. The report by the local planning commission showed that residential investments more than tripled since 2015, underscoring the area's booming local market.  6 News
