ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A stovetop fire forced residents out of Sutters Mill Apartments in West Knoxville Sunday evening when a man left food frying unattended—firefighters said the fire, smoke and water damage left the apartment and several other units uninhabitable.  10 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Knox County deputies responded to a shooting call at the 7800 block of Stanley Road at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday when a suspect hit Deputy Dalton Swanger with a large rock or brick, leaving him critically injured — the suspect was taken into custody shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday.  WVLT 8

  • On June 22, dog owners and their pets gathered at Lakeshore Park for Sunday's at the 'Shore + the outdoor bluegrass worship event hosted by St. John's Cathedral provided a fun, dog-friendly summer experience.  Knoxville News Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new Tennessee law will let foster care youth receive state support until age 23 to help them move from custody to independence. The law will soon cover eligible teens turning 18 who are finishing school, in training programs, or working 80 hours a month + those who cannot work because of a health issue.  10 News

  • Knoxville-area blood donors who visit MEDIC from today until June 27 will receive a complimentary ticket to Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies — a beach towel and a Texas Roadhouse coupon are offered with the donation, boosting the effort to increase local blood supply.  WVLT 8

  • Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins returned to East Tennessee on Sunday for the free Harp and Higgs Car Show Driven by Hemmings at the World's Fair Exhibition Hall in Knoxville. He teamed with NFL players Devin and Thomas Harper + treated local fans to food, music and custom cars while celebrating his homecoming and passion for automobiles.  WVLT 8
