- ➤ Vestal United Methodist Church in South Knoxville will open as a cooling center today to offer food, water, clothing and bus pass assistance to anyone needing relief from the summer heat. The church will serve the community from noon to 8 p.m. — Pastor Eric Johnson said the effort is part of a new local partnership to support those without shelter. WVLT 8
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire caused severe damage to a home on Fairway Lane (in Bean Station) around midnight Saturday, according to the Bean Station Volunteer Fire Department. A BSVFD engine and tanker arrived within minutes while other crews (Rutledge, Thorn Hill, Lakeview fire departments and Bean Station Rescue Squad) responded to support the incident. 6 News
- ➤ Early Sunday morning, a driver crashed into a building on Washington Pike near Luttrell Road in Knoxville and was cut from his car before being taken to a hospital in serious condition—officials said the building sustained heavy damage. WVLT 8

- ➤ A suspect fired shots at police during a multi-county chase and was arrested in Loudon County with the chase ending shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday—according to Loudon County Cpl. Cody Bengel. WVLT 8
- ➤ A suspect wanted on robbery charges fired shots at police and was arrested early Sunday after a multi-county chase along Highway 70 and Highway 321 that ended when officers used a PIT maneuver to stop his white Jeep (no one was injured). WVLT 8
- ➤ Yesterday morning, Knoxville police responded at 7:15 a.m. during a shooting on Howard Baker Jr. Avenue—finding a man fatally shot after an altercation—and are asking anyone with information to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers about a suspect who left the scene. 6 News
- ➤ Knoxville Police are investigating a fatal shooting at an East Knoxville apartment complex after a man was found dead from a gunshot on Sunday morning on Howard Baker Jr. Avenue — the suspect fled and no arrests have been made. 10 News
