- ➤ Augusta Quarry and Mead’s Quarry, once used to extract marble, now serve as popular swimming spots for Knoxville residents. Augusta Quarry is open daily from 7:45 a.m. to 8 p.m.—it offers free life vests, restrooms, and a floating dock, while Mead’s Quarry provides vendor rentals, set parking fees, and strict rules on watercraft and inflatables. - ➤ A Rockwood man — 70-year-old Devin Schillinger — was arrested on Sunday night and charged with first-degree murder after authorities said he shot 36-year-old Michael Kerley on the 200 block of George Anna Drive in Rockwood, where Kerley died despite emergency care and Schillinger was booked on a $1 million bond. 6 News
- ➤ On July 4th at 9:47 p.m. on I-640 west, Terry France, 46, fled a traffic stop after his truck—missing a tire and a headlight and driving on its rim—crashed into oncoming traffic and endangered others before a trooper caught him and he was charged with DUI, reckless endangerment, and additional offenses; he is set to appear in court Tuesday morning. 10 News

- ➤ Knoxville drivers are advised to plan alternate routes on I-275 as crews replace the bridge over Elm Street and Bernard Avenue starting 7 p.m. Friday, July 11 until 6 a.m. Monday, July 14 — with a second full closure from 7 p.m. Friday, July 18 to 6 a.m. Monday, July 21 and a third shutdown planned for fall — and should use I-40 or I-640 during this work. 10 News
- ➤ Knoxville leaders received a letter from the Federal Highway Administration that confirmed federal funding remains in place for a new pedestrian bridge connecting UT campus to South Knoxville. City officials said the project will move forward with a $24 million RAISE grant—plans for a kickoff meeting are in the works. 10 News
