COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Belle Morris residents are asking the city to turn a utility corridor into a greenway— a plan that will create safe paths for pedestrians and cyclists while linking local bus stops and the school. The group will pursue the project in the updated Parks and Recreation Master Plan and urges neighbors to contact the parks department for support.  10 News
  • Betty Hammill, who served as West Knox FISH Food Pantry Chair for 46 years at 92, was honored with a bench at her final meeting—she grew the nonprofit from a one-person operation to over 100 volunteers serving Knoxville families in need.  WVLT 8

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After three deadly crashes on Highway 62 last month, the Tennessee Highway Patrol is now working to improve visibility—steps aimed at preventing further accidents.  10 News

  • Authorities and family are searching for Keith Conley, 65 — a master electrician who left for work at 5 a.m. on July 11 and was last seen at Weigel’s on John Sevier Hwy, with search teams checking every exit as his 2003 White Ford Ranger with Tennessee tag BFN1492 remains missing.  6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gospel singer Chris Blue from Knoxville announced he is nominated for four Dove Award categories, including New Artist of the Year, Southern Gospel Recorded Song of the Year, Southern Gospel Album and Traditional Gospel Song following his win on season 12 of The Voice. He said he feels honored by the nominations—his faith guides his music.  6 News
  • University of Tennessee alum Tramell Tillman has been nominated for an Emmy Award for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series for his role as Mr. Milchick on Severance—an Apple TV+ show where he plays a manager at Lumon Industries.  WVLT 8
  • Zoo Knoxville will debut a new nighttime attraction in November at its reimagined Timber Loop that uses sensory-rich custom music + vivid visual displays to capture the spirit of the Smoky Mountains. The show will run every night through winter, offering guests an immersive experience in the zoo’s Appalachian biome.  WVLT 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Interstate 40 has been partially repaved with work from Liberty Street to West Dale Avenue in 2009, West Dale Avenue to the Blackstock Avenue bridge in 2016, and Papermill Drive to Liberty Street in 2018—yet many areas remain in need of repair. TDOT plans to start a resurfacing project from Papermill Drive to the Blackstock Avenue bridge in summer or spring 2027 while the governor’s $80 million in recurring funds will support resurfacing 130 lane miles statewide each year.  Knoxville News Sentinel

  • Knox County health officials are warning parents to secure required vaccines for children before school begins, noting that younger kids need Hepatitis A and B vaccines while older students need a Tdap booster. The Health Department encourages scheduling appointments by calling (865) 215-5000 or using walk-ins to avoid last-minute delays.  10 News
