- ➤ A Knoxville man—Charles Sherman Hicks—was arrested Thursday after agents seized about one kilogram of cocaine, 16 pounds of marijuana, fentanyl and oxymorphone pills, over $35,000, several cars, and a gun from his home on Sevierville Pike during an investigation into drug distribution in Blount and Knox counties. - ➤ Knoxville voters will choose City Council candidates for Districts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 in the August 26 primary as a new law limits voting to local district residents—District 5 voters will vote in November on Mayor Indya Kincannon’s proposed sales tax increase that would raise the rate from 2.25% to 2.75%. 6 News
- ➤ Blount County homeowners have reported receiving suspicious letters that ask for $89 to obtain their property deeds — the letters include wrong county seals and addresses from Nashville and St. Petersburg and appear to target seniors. The Register of Deeds urged residents to contact her office directly to get the correct documents for just a dollar per page. WVLT 8
