- ➤ South Knoxville is getting a new mural painted on the side of Alliance Brewing Company that will welcome visitors to Sevier Avenue—part of an 18-month, $19.2 million streetscape project. - ➤ Crews responded Wednesday morning to a house fire on Gillespie Avenue — caused by an overloaded power strip and similar to an earlier incident on Fremont Place — as the Fire Department urges residents to inspect cords to help prevent further electrical fires. WVLT 8
- ➤ Ten years ago, a CSX train carrying over 20,000 gallons of acrylonitrile derailed in Maryville near Singleton Station Road, forcing 5,000 residents to evacuate for 36 hours and prompting extensive cleanup, water testing, and legal claims — a disaster that reshaped the local community. 10 News
- ➤ A motorcyclist died after crashing into a stationary pickup truck in South Knoxville on Tuesday night at 11:20 p.m.—police said the biker was speeding south on Chapman Highway when he collided with the truck and crash investigators are looking into the incident. 10 News

- ➤ Knoxville police said Wayne Parham, 28, accused of second-degree murder in the July 6th shooting that killed Michael Velazquez at an apartment on Howard Baker Jr. Avenue—was arrested in Asheville, North Carolina by U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement and will soon be extradited to Knox County. 6 News
