- ➤ A Knoxville Cook Out on Cumberland Avenue was cited for nearly six critical health violations including flies on food and incorrect temperatures — an inspector later returned and confirmed the issues were fixed, raising the grade from 70 to 94. 6 News

- ➤ Knoxville Police identified 17-year-old Demetrius Johnson as a suspect in Tuesday night’s shooting on Minnesota Avenue that injured two teens — he remains at large while officers track a black SUV linked to the incident. WVLT 8

- ➤ Knoxville native Leanne Morgan’s sitcom 'Leanne' premiered on Netflix on July 31—Netflix said the show follows her character after her husband of 33 years left her for another woman. - ➤ Knoxville preschool teacher Alissa Rhyne, who survived four years of abuse, turned her personal experience and a pageant speech on mandated reporting into the Rosie's Promise platform that offers free online resources to help adults recognize child abuse signs. She is also training her dog to become a certified therapy dog — a move that will bring comfort to children in schools and hospitals. 10 News

- ➤ Early voting for Knoxville primary elections will begin Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 12 p.m. and run through Aug. 21 at six locations—voters will cast ballots in five city council races with the top two candidates in each race moving on to the November general election. WVLT 8
- ➤ Elected officials and Knoxville Fire Department employees broke ground yesterday on Burlington Fire Station #6 in East Knoxville (4017 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave) as members of the Burlington Business District Association joined the ceremony to mark the start of construction for a new facility. - ➤ Knoxville City Council approved a nearly $19 million project to improve Pleasant Ridge Road in northwest Knoxville from Merchant Drive to the city limits, adding lanes, sidewalks and turn lanes near Pleasant Ridge Elementary School. The city will host a public meeting in August before beginning fall construction — work is expected to finish by 2027 — as the plan aims to ease traffic and boost safety for local residents. 10 News
