- ➤ On August 1, 2025, locals gathered at Market Square for the Kuumba Festival where groups like Drums Up, Guns Down and Kuumba Watoto performed music and dance to celebrate African-American culture in East Tennessee—dancers, stilt walkers and vendors added to the lively event with food and crafts. - ➤ Tennessee requires children enrolling in schools to be current on vaccines (such as DTaP, IPV, MMR, Hib, hepatitis A and B, varicella, and PCV) as part of state guidelines, and a positive antibody test can serve as proof of immunity. Health officials follow CDC recommendations for the timing and intervals of these immunizations to protect against serious diseases. 6 News
- ➤ The McNabb Center received $9.2 million to expand its Elevate program for high school students battling substance misuse and will triple its classroom capacity. The new facility will serve 60 students with outdoor, virtual classrooms and treatment rooms (triple its current capacity) and is expected to be built in (18 months). 10 News
