- ➤ The FAA is investigating a Sonex plane crash that occurred shortly after takeoff from Tellico Plains Municipal Airport on Aug. 5—only the pilot was aboard—and there is no word on injuries. WVLT 8
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Knox County assessor Phil Ballard was indicted for official misconduct after he was accused of using both a county vehicle and a travel allowance—he turned himself in Thursday morning on a low-level felony charge as state and county reviews continue. 10 News
- ➤ A Knox County jury convicted Jevess Craigmire of attempted first-degree murder for trying to kill his ex-girlfriend—he now faces up to 31 years in prison. 10 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On August 7, students began classes at Bonny Kate Elementary in South Knoxville, Whittle Springs Middle and Powell High while officials including Superintendent Jon Rysewyk and Mayor Glenn Jacobs welcomed them—marking the start of a new school year.
