CRIME NEWS

  • The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office investigated a fatal shooting in Andersonville after deputies found a man fatally injured at a home on Sequoyah Road just after 2 a.m. Saturday — his identity is withheld until next-of-kin is notified.  6 News
  • Lady Vols basketball player Ruby Whitehorn was arrested in Knox County Friday afternoon for domestic assault and aggravated burglary after an altercation in North Knox County—she was released on bond Saturday morning and will appear in court Tuesday, August 12.  6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dollywood in Pigeon Forge has hinted that a new ride called 'Hidden Hollow Aviation' will allow guests to take flight in 2026—park officials say more details will appear on social media as this marks the park's largest investment in its history.  6 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has introduced two detection dogs trained to find the spotted lanternfly that harms grapes, hops and stone fruits. They have already found the pests in Sumner, Jefferson and Davidson counties and urge residents to take photos and smash egg masses—helping to keep local crops safe.  WVLT 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tennessee kindergarten immunization rates have fallen to 92.3%—with Maury County near 88% while Cheatham, Dickson, Rutherford and Montgomery Counties hover around or meet the target of 95% needed for herd immunity. Health officials warn that rising religious exemptions and declining vaccinations may put local children, teachers and the community at risk.  6 News
