COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A memorial stair climb will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Sept. 11 at Covenant Health Park to honor 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement officers and eight paramedics who died on 9/11. State Sen. Becky Duncan Massey will emcee the event — with proceeds benefiting the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.  WVLT 8

CRIME NEWS

  • Tennessee wide receiver Chris Brazzell was arrested on Friday just before 9 p.m. after Knoxville police pulled him over near the Henley Street Bridge for speeding and discovered he was driving on a suspended license—records show his license was suspended for failing to appear in court on Aug. 15 and he is set to appear in court on Aug. 20.  WVLT 8
  • Ruby Whitehorn, a Lady Vols guard, was arrested on Friday around 4:15 p.m. at a home on Earnhart Way after a domestic dispute when she kicked in a woman’s door—she claimed she was reclaiming her property and now faces charges of domestic assault and aggravated burglary with a court appearance set for Tuesday.  WVLT 8
  • University of Tennessee women's basketball player Ruby Whitehorn was arrested Friday afternoon in North Knox County for aggravated burglary and domestic assault after police responded to a domestic dispute where she kicked in a front door and a bedroom door, and her court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.  10 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Niche released its list of the top 25 Tennessee public high schools on August 10th based on U.S. Department of Education test scores, college data and crowdsourced reviews. The list names Hume-Fogg, Central Magnet and Ravenwood as leading schools in the state.  6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TDOT announced that road work on highway 275 near downtown Knoxville will cause intermittent lane closures at the bridge over Elm Street and Bernard Avenue starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday and continuing nightly until 6 a.m. on Friday — drivers are advised to use caution and expect delays.  WVLT 8

  • Netflix’s documentary SEC Football: Any Given Saturday shows that UT’s season ended painfully after a comeback win over Vanderbilt was followed by a heavy loss to Ohio State — dashing their playoff hopes. The seven-episode series follows SEC teams and captures moments with coach Josh Heupel and players like Bru McCoy — reflecting the team’s drive to just win.  10 News
