- ➤ Officials with the Tennessee Valley Fair in Chilhowee Park are unsure about their future after the city announced that Muse Knoxville will move into the Jacob Building in a couple of years. Fair director Abby Villas said planning for the 2026 fair is already underway and discussions with the city will continue to decide if the fair remains at its long-time home. WVLT 8
- ➤ Zoo Knoxville will offer $10 admission on Sunday, Aug. 17 and give guests over 60% off regular ticket prices — the zoo said the promotion celebrates its bond with the community. WVLT 8
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Shawn Willis pleaded guilty to second degree murder for shooting his mother in Anderson County as a teen — he confessed in 2020 and received a 30-year prison sentence. WVLT 8
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Knox Heritage released its annual Fragile and Fading list naming 11 historic sites in need of repair in Knox County, with sites like Howell House and the Giffin School in the Moving Forward category — one of several that mark preservation needs such as Fading Fast and Still Fragile. The list adds new entries to the Ones to Watch category like Maplehurst Park and The Maples, which may see future restoration and adaptive reuse. 6 News

- ➤ A report from the Tennessee Department of Health found that unintentional poisoning deaths in children doubled over four years—over half were linked to prescription drugs and 70% involved fentanyl, prompting Metro Drug Coalition to urge parents to secure medications and discuss safety with their children. - ➤ The Knox County government announced it will spray for mosquitoes in North Knoxville after routine checks found West Nile virus on Davanna Street in the Central Avenue area. The spraying is set for between 8 and 10 p.m. Thursday if weather allows and residents are advised to stay indoors and keep their pets safe. 6 News
