  • Crews responded to a massive sinkhole in the 600 block of Eslinger Road yesterday and reported that drivers could not pass the area while officials estimated repairs would take five hours.  WVLT 8

  • A Blount County judge dismissed charges against Michael Keith Fine, an elderly suspect accused of killing his parents in the 1970s, and ordered his release from jail on Aug. 15.  10 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Yesterday, TVA said it would buy power from Kairos Power’s advanced reactor in Oak Ridge—this reactor will send 50 kilowatts to power Google’s data centers in Clarksville and Bridgeport. The company plans to boost output to 50 megawatts to help meet rising energy needs from AI and cloud computing.  Knoxville News Sentinel

  • More than 40,000 students begin classes today at UT as the fall semester starts, marking an important day for campus life.  10 News

  • Knox County launched a new website for Operation Hero’s Hill and will begin building 20 tiny homes for homeless veterans this month—students from local schools will work with trade experts while the veterans receive access to a community center with a computer lab and laundry facilities.  6 News
  • U.S. Rep Tim Burchett endorsed Marsha Blackburn in her run for governor using a video on X, praising her for stopping an income tax proposal in the state Senate—joining Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs in her support. The move comes weeks after Blackburn’s campaign announcement and marks growing backing from East Tennessee leaders.  WVLT 8
