- ➤ On Sunday, Knox County Rescue honored diver Corey Berggren — who died on August 24th during a recovery at Augusta Quarry — by floating a memorial wreath at the site. The quarry reopened in July after a renovation project that improved safety. 6 News

- ➤ Knoxville welcomed its first Whataburger on Monday on Cumberland Avenue near the UT campus. The restaurant employs 60 workers, operates 24/7 except on Christmas, and will deploy a food truck to a UT game against Arkansas while planning two more Knoxville locations. WVLT 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UT College of Nursing dedicated a new state-of-the-art building on Volunteer Boulevard and Peyton Manning Pass after three years of work—this 117,000-square-foot facility includes modern classrooms, labs, a 250-seat auditorium, and will support student scholarships through a partnership with UT Medical Center. 6 News

- ➤ Eclipse Companies, LLC was awarded a contract by the Federal Highway Administration to repair the rockslide-damaged US 441–Newfound Gap Road in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The contractor will set up equipment this week and finish repairs on or before September 30. 6 News
- ➤ More than 200 people gathered at the Portales Event Center on August 25 to talk about the Emerald Youth Foundation's request for proposal for the Midway at Chilhowee Park, with Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon leading the meeting. - ➤ The National Park Service said Eclipse Companies LLC will repair the washed-out section of US 441/Newfound Gap Road near the Alum Cave trailhead after heavy rain on Aug 1. - ➤ Tennessee’s Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services has launched a program offering up to $30,000 for students earning a master’s in behavioral health—recipients must work for a community-based agency for as many years as they receive aid. Nearly 70 graduates have finished the program and more than 200 students now receive funds, with an additional 300 scholarships expected as new applications open. WVLT 8
