CRIME NEWS
- ➤ University of Tennessee Police addressed game day safety concerns as students reported threats and hoaxes raising alarm around campus. The department is coordinating with Knoxville Police and other agencies while limiting details to maintain security. WVLT 8
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The cast of Napoleon Dynamite is coming to Knoxville with their live 20th anniversary show at Knoxville Civic Auditorium on Sept. 18 at 8:00 p.m.—including original cast members like Pedro and Uncle Rico who will screen the film and interact with fans. WVLT 8
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ With summer ending, trees in East Tennessee have started to show hints of fall color due to cooler days, but warmer temperatures returning later in September will slow change in lower areas like Knoxville until October—while higher elevations in the Smokies may reach peak color earlier—if rainfall holds steady. 6 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, Knoxville City Council approved about $1.2 million to improve Liberty Street by adding a new sidewalk from Sutherland Avenue to Division Street and bike lanes that connect to the Third Creek Greenway. The project is 80% federally funded and will finish by next Spring to offer safer travel for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users. WVLT 8
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Interfaith Health Center is moving all of its low-cost services to a new building at 7005 Middlebrook Pike so patients can get medical, dental and mental health care under one roof. With $12 million raised from local and state sources and donors — the center will open in November with expanded services like ophthalmology and a larger physical therapy area. 6 News
- ➤ Karns High School student Hayden Jennings was diagnosed with rare bone cancer in October that broke his hip and ended his sports career—his school rallied around him with the motto 'Hayden Strong'—and he became cancer free after months of chemotherapy and surgery. He now plans to try baseball again when he can and to study medicine to help other kids. WVLT 8

- ➤ Tennessee players Colton Hood and Braylon Staley earned SEC weekly honors after the Vols won their season-opening game against Syracuse—Hood had four tackles, a fumble recovery touchdown and three pass breakups, and Staley recorded 95 receiving yards with four catches and one touchdown in his fifth game. 10 News
