- ➤ Joseph McDorman, 37 from Portland, is charged with harassment and recklessly threatening violence after he called the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center on August 7 while seeking care for his pet spider monkey, saying he would blow up and burn the hospital if his monkey died, and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 15. 6 News

- ➤ Severe storms left thousands without power in East Tennessee on Thursday, and Knoxville Utilities Board crews worked to restore service while customers were advised to stay away from downed power lines — more than 6,000 remained without power as of 4:15 p.m. 6 News

- ➤ The City of Knoxville will hold a community meeting on Sept. 25 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Dr. E.V. Davidson Community Center to review its plan to sell 13 acres of Chilhowee Park to the Emerald Youth Foundation for a community complex.
