CRIME NEWS

  • A 71-year-old Monroe County woman was attacked on Saturday by a group of 10 to 15 pit bull mix dogs at her Madisonville home—bystanders corralled the animals while she was treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital, and four individuals were charged with animal-related crimes.  WVLT 8
  • Four people were charged after 10 to 15 pit bull mix dogs attacked a 71-year-old woman in Madisonville Saturday—witnesses said the attack on Fairview Road left her with deep cuts and emergency responders treated her before taking her to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.  6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Zoo Knoxville’s red panda cubs—two males born on June 3 to parents Sisu and Doofah—made their public debut on Saturday in the Boyd Family Red Panda Village as mom Sisu cared for them while they played in the enclosure; the cubs are the first red pandas born at the zoo in five years.  10 News
  • Knoxville Children’s Theatre is opening its parking lot on game days to help recover lost revenue from canceling home performances after its move at 747 World’s Fair Park Drive—donations from parking fees will support production costs and community shows.  6 News

  • On Saturday, nonprofit Blue Line Tennessee gave Knox County Deputy Matt Kirchner a check after he was injured in a crash on July 27—he is expected to need more surgeries and rehab while the driver faces a hearing on October 23.  6 News

  • Tennessee Volunteers football climbed to No. 15 in the AP Poll after a home opener win against ETSU this past Saturday—Joey Aguilar led the offense while Colton Hood shined on defense. They will play Georgia Saturday in a crucial matchup to improve their ranking.  10 News
