COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Knoxville leaders will observe the 9/11 anniversary on September 11 with a wreath-laying ceremony at 8:40 a.m. at the 9/11 Memorial on the lawn of the City County Building, and Main Street will be closed from Walnut to Gay until 9:15 a.m. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation of Knoxville will host a memorial stair climb for first responders at Covenant Health Park starting at 9:30 a.m., and Crunch Fitness will hold its own stair climb and deliver pizza and T-shirts—supporting local first responders.  6 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • J.C. Holdway on Union Avenue in Knoxville was named to the New York Times’ list of best 50 restaurants for 2025 — it is one of only two Tennessee eateries honored and chef-owner Joseph Lenn was praised for his pork-belly biscuits and grilled North Carolina trout as the restaurant marked its 9th anniversary on Monday.  6 News
  • A famed NYC bagel shop, H&H Bagels, is opening its first Tennessee store at 11390B Parkside Drive on Thursday, September 18. The shop will open daily from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the first 200 customers will get tote bags (with gift cards from $5 to $100) at the grand opening.  6 News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued an AMBER Alert for 8-year-old Samantha Shelly who was last seen in Sneedville Tuesday—she is 4'2" tall, weighs 55 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes—and has a medical condition that may affect her safe return.  WVLT 8
  • Authorities issued an AMBER Alert Tuesday for eight-year-old Samantha Shelly from Sneedville—she was reported missing and her medical condition may hamper her safe return as investigators search for leads.  6 News
  • Seventeen-year-old Riley Pawlick appeared in Roane County court Tuesday to decide on his release but the judge kept him in jail after he was accused of shooting and killing 18-year-old Holden Howse during a party in Harriman on August 30 — he faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and evidence destruction.  6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Big Ears Festival for 2026 will return to Knoxville from March 26-29 with nearly 250 performances featuring artists like Robert Plant, David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, John Zorn and Flying Lotus. The event is held at 20 venues and marks its 13th year in Knoxville—bringing a mix of music styles across the city.  WVLT 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • Summit Medical Group and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee reached an agreement that keeps patients' access to Summit clinics and doctors under new network plans. Summit said the deal came after sending a notice of non-renewal and continued talks.  6 News
