COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Operation Vet Rescue held a poker run fundraiser Saturday afternoon at Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson on Alexander Parkway in Maryville to help homeless veterans in East Tennessee get off the streets and into temporary housing. The veteran-led nonprofit said funds raised will cover about $1,500 per veteran and support plans to build a tiny home community — the group urges anyone who can help to donate or volunteer.  6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tramell Tillman, a UT alumnus, became the first Black actor to win an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series when he accepted his award at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles—he won for his role in the Apple TV+ series Severance and marked a historic first in that category.  10 News
  • The Tennessee Valley Fair ended Sunday night at Chilhowee park and organizers said the event was a success. The fair will return in 2026 but its future is in question as the city plans to lease the Jacob building to Muse Knoxville in 2028—attendees worry that moving the fair may take away cherished local memories.  6 News
  • Today, the third floor of the East Tennessee History Center displays the largest collection of works by local artist Catherine Wiley, including paintings such as The Water Babies and Study in Deep Blue. The exhibit—featuring items donated by her family in 1978—is preserving her creative legacy for future generations in Knoxville.  Knoxville News Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • McGhee Tyson Airport experienced eight runway incursions over the past four years, and the FAA classified each incident as low risk — no dangerous events occurred. The FAA has now introduced new safety technology to help pilots avoid these runway events in the future.  Knoxville News Sentinel
  • Knoxville city leaders will meet with community members today to discuss the potential sale of Chilhowee Park—Emerald Youth Foundation is set to buy 13 acres to build a youth sports complex.  10 News

  • Tennessee Athletics Director Danny White apologized on September 14 for entry delays at Neyland Stadium that prevented some fans from reaching their seats in time—he said the expanded south concourse and Gate 9 plan did not work and changes will be made to improve traffic flow for future games. White said officials are reviewing the plan and will adjust it immediately.  10 News
  • After Saturday's games in Week 4 of the AP Top 25 college football poll, the top teams won while Notre Dame, Clemson and South Carolina lost — Miami defeated South Florida and Georgia won in overtime at Tennessee, raising questions about playoff paths and shifts in rankings.  6 News
