- ➤ Maryville College is planning to build an 65,000-square-foot science center on campus with $80M from private donations and $12M from the state, and the facility will house natural sciences, health sciences, math and computer science departments along with specialized centers for quantitative analysis and Appalachian wellness. The college will break ground on the Alexander Institute for Environmental Education and the Sciences next year on the front lawn near Lamar Alexander Parkway—designed with barn-like features and solar panels for sustainability. 6 News
- ➤ UT Knoxville placed a faculty member on administrative leave after she allegedly made comments endorsing violence and murder regarding conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and termination proceedings have begun — the university said her actions did not meet its civic expectations. 6 News

- ➤ The Knoxville City Council will vote today on a plan to convert 3.8 miles of unused railroad tracks in South Knoxville into a trail—this includes a 1.5-mile art walk funded by a $1 million gift from the Lawson Family Foundation. If approved, the plan will need federal review and construction will begin late fall with the art walk opening in fall 2026—boosting outdoor access in the area. 6 News
- ➤ Gay Street Bridge in south Knoxville will reopen for pedestrians and cyclists by December 31 after a June closure exposed safety issues — many residents say they miss when it carried nearly 7,000 vehicles daily. Mayor Kincannon is asking for a $1 million grant (with a $200,000 city match) to study a replacement that lets cars cross, and the city council will consider the plan today. 10 News
