- ➤ Atomic Lodge 1301 partnered with community groups to secure a $1.9 million grant for a new enrichment center—designed to offer needed services to Scarboro residents. 10 News

- ➤ The DOE awarded a $1.9 million grant to restore Scarboro’s Atomic Elks Lodge—a historic building built during the Manhattan Project—into a community hub in Oak Ridge. The project will provide new opportunities in economic growth, healthcare and education and include a groundbreaking set for January. WVLT 8
- ➤ Tennessee’s attorney general joined a federal lawsuit filed in California against Ticketmaster and Live Nation—accusing them of letting fake accounts and bots boost ticket prices and block fans from buying tickets. The suit seeks to stop these practices and bring more transparency for consumers. 6 News
- ➤ Mayor Indya Kincannon explained that the council has delayed a vote on the Chilhowee Park proposal until Sept. 30 to address concerns about selling park land for a youth sports complex — and she said the local option sales tax referendum in November will fund projects like paving, sidewalks near schools, and affordable housing. She also noted that public input will guide plans for the future use of the former police headquarters site that the city recently reclaimed. 6 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The FDA approved updated guidance for fall Covid vaccines—Moderna is recommended for those 6 months to 64 with underlying conditions and all 65 and older, Pfizer for people 5 and older at risk, and Novavax for people 12 and older with similar conditions. Some insurers will cover the vaccine as the CDC prepares official guidelines, and Tennesseans not in the recommended groups may need to pay out of pocket. WVLT 8
- ➤ Data from the Tennessee Department of Health shows that alcohol-related deaths increased more than 24% from 2019 to 2023—women aged 25 to 34 saw a 255% rise since 1999, with experts linking the trend to easier access and COVID-19 challenges. Dr. Louis Lerebours from the Freeman Recovery Center said he observed more patients seeking help for alcohol use disorder. 6 News
