- ➤ Van and Frances Ford, a Cocke County couple, nearly finished rebuilding their home on Hartford Road after Hurricane Helene destroyed it almost a year ago — local volunteers from many groups helped with the work. They plan to move in within a week — and they remain grateful for the community support. 6 News
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The deadline to file a claim in the $8.9 million lawsuit against Poppi for false advertising is this week. Consumers who bought Poppi drinks from Jan. 23, 2020 to Jul. 18, 2025 can get up to $9 with proof of purchase — the company settled without admitting wrongdoing. WVLT 8
- ➤ Harold Goldston, Jenny Salata and DeShaun Richardson opened The Pink Cactus, a karaoke bar and restaurant with private rooms on Sevier Avenue in South Knoxville. The new business will host a grand opening celebration on Friday, September 26 — private karaoke rooms cost $30 an hour and the bar is 21 after 9 p.m. 10 News

- ➤ Hamblen County Animal Control rescued 184 animals from a Morristown home in an animal cruelty case — officials are reviewing the incident — to ensure the animals were placed in safe care. 10 News

- ➤ UT student Chloe Peterson painted a mural on the Rock with Metro Drug Coalition to raise stress awareness among students. The artwork uses the number 76 to reflect that many college students face stress daily — the group advises practices like meditation and exercise for healthier living. 10 News
- ➤ Knox County Board of Education member Katherine Bike announced Monday she will run for re-election in 2026 for the 4th District in West Knoxville — she won by just 139 votes in 2022. Voters in Districts 1, 4, 6, 7 and 9 will choose school board candidates in a primary on May 5 with the top two advancing to the general election on Aug. 6. 10 News

- ➤ I-275 in Knoxville will close for the final phase of a bridge replacement project. The work has been ongoing for weeks—previous closures in July lasted two weekends. WVLT 8
- ➤ Knox County leaders are drafting a new unified development ordinance as part of the Advance Knox plan to boost mixed housing and improve roads and infrastructure — consultants noted misalignments in zoning, parking and natural protections. The draft will be ready in nine months and public input is invited at open houses today at Northshore Elementary and Ritta Elementary and on Sept. 25 at Powell Middle School and New Hopewell Elementary. 10 News
- ➤ The Department of Veterans Affairs announced over $19M in grants on Monday to five Tennessee organizations to support homeless or at-risk veterans by providing access to housing, health care, financial planning services, childcare, legal assistance & transportation. VA data shows veteran homelessness in Tennessee declined by 24.9 percent in January. 6 News
- ➤ During Child Passenger Safety Week, several local agencies are offering free car seat checks so children are safely secured; the Knoxville Police Department holds appointment-only events at 917 E. Fifth Ave—while the Blount County Sheriff in Maryville has a check on Sept. 27 and an Oak Ridge event runs Friday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. WVLT 8
