  • A year after Hurricane Helene’s historic flood, community leaders say local volunteers continue to repair homes, roads, and bridges while offering needed emotional support to neighbors. Stefan Fox of Mountain Strong Sanctuary said his team uses a flexible network — drawing help from out-of-state volunteers — to boost recovery in affected areas.  10 News
  • On Sunday in Knoxville, Gold Star mothers attended an event hosted by the Veterans Heritage Site Foundation to honor fallen service members and remember Paula Knauss-Selph’s son, Army Staff Sgt Ryan, who was killed by shrapnel in a Kabul bombing in 2021—she has since founded the Respect and Remember Foundation to support military families and cadets.   • New documents show Sevierville may soon have a Whataburger restaurant as the planning commission will discuss a site plan to convert a building at 1536 Parkway — the plan calls for a dual drive-through.   • Less than half of Tennesseans have signed up for the REAL ID required for domestic flights and federal building access, so Knox County residents should prepare the proper identity, Social Security, and residency documents and visit local driver services centers or a county clerk’s office—available at several local locations.  Knoxville News Sentinel
