- ➤ One year after Hurricane Helene flooded Erwin Industrial Park, community leaders have been rebuilding roads and local businesses to improve emergency access — while the loss of six Impact Plastics workers who died still weighs on the area. WVLT 8

- ➤ Zoo Knoxville will host Brew at the Zoo on Oct. 3 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. with general, VIP and designated driver ticket options—offering over 40 craft beverages, animal encounters, live entertainment and food—with all proceeds supporting wildlife conservation and education. 10 News

- ➤ UT Chancellor Donde Plowman fired assistant professor Tamar Shirinian after she made a post about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death, sparking controversy over her free speech rights. In letters, Shirinian claimed her firing was unfair and noted that another professor’s 2016 comments received milder treatment—she said she will challenge the decision in court. WVLT 8

- ➤ Grainger County Mayor Mike Byrd is trying to bring city water to Thorn Hill as many residents use poor-quality well water—he will present the plan on Thursday at the Thorn Hill Community Center to the Sneedville Utility Board. The county seeks a $1 million block grant and needs at least 50 low-to-moderate income sign-ups to qualify for the grant. 6 News
- ➤ Northbound lanes of Alcoa Highway will close for construction starting Saturday, Oct. 4 at 12:01 a.m. as crews remove rocks from the slope — motorists are advised to use alternate routes via Pellissippi Parkway and I-40 until the closure lifts Tuesday at 6 a.m. WVLT 8
- ➤ The Knox County Election Commission announced that the polling place at Knoxville Expo Center will open on Monday, October 20—days later than other sites that start early voting on October 15 for the City of Knoxville Election. Voters in districts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 will later cast ballots for city council seats and on Mayor Indya Kincannon’s local sales tax proposal. 6 News
- ➤ The Gatlinburg Bypass at Great Smoky Mountains National Park remains closed after a heavy rain on Sept. 27 caused a landslide that covered about 150 feet of road with mud and debris — crews removed over 70 loads of debris over the weekend but still work to clear blocked drainage and a culvert. The park will post an update when the site is fully stabilized. Knoxville News Sentinel
