COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Thursday, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee visited Muse Knoxville to collect the 'Expect Employment' report that shows how the museum helps people with disabilities get jobs—using its Muse Ambassador Program that gives a chance to build a better life for adults like ambassador Derrick Freeman.  6 News
  • Rescue organization Horse Haven moved into its new home at 608 Old Brookhaven Farm Road and will hold its grand opening at its Fall Harvest Fest and Craft Fair on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—the nonprofit rescued 88 horses, rehomed 34, and built a 20-stall barn as it seeks donations to finish renovations by 2026.  WVLT 8

  • East Tennessee is hosting fall festivals this weekend that bring art, live music, and local treats to Knoxville, Sevierville, and Jefferson City. The events include Fourth & Chill— a block party in North Knoxville, The Apple Barn’s first Harvest Festival, and a family-friendly celebration at Mossy Creek Station.  10 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, local leaders and volunteers celebrated the start of Keep the Tennessee River Watershed Beautiful Month with Mayor Indya Kincannon, TVA officials, and environmental groups. Environmental advocate Kathleen Gibi said volunteers have nearly collected 1,000,000 pounds of trash and will pass that milestone in October — a change that brings hope for a cleaner river.  10 News

  • Gov. Bill Lee celebrated Muse Knoxville’s effort to hire people with disabilities at the local children's museum, recognizing the institution's role in promoting inclusive hiring.  10 News
  • TDOT official Mark Nagi said on Thursday that northbound Alcoa Highway will close this weekend for work needed to keep drivers safe.  10 News
  • Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said on X Thursday that Great Smoky Mountains National Park will remain open during the federal government shutdown—visitors can plan trips knowing the park is still welcoming guests.  WVLT 8
  • Knox County's Continuum of Care Board announced a three-year plan to fight homelessness by setting five clear goals—focusing on stable housing and support for residents. The board will work with local groups to help people in need.  WVLT 8
  • Knoxville City Council approved two South Waterfront projects after withdrawing a vote on selling part of Chilhowee Park. Mayor Indya Kincannon authorized a $2 million transfer to Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation to build a greenway connecting 303 Flats with CityView condominiums — a paving contract for a 79-space parking lot near Printshop Beer and Mighty Mud is set to finish by Nov. 7.  6 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tennessee families buying health insurance through the Affordable Care Act could see premiums double if Congress lets enhanced subsidies expire, with costs rising up to 26% and a monthly bill jumping from $74 to over $160 by January 1, 2026. Lawmakers' budget fight may leave 400,000 Tennesseans without coverage and strain rural health providers+causing significant care disruptions.  6 News
  • Alex Davidson, a 21-year-old who survived a severe car crash at 16, recently graduated from in-home nursing care and has achieved major milestones such as high school prom and a visit to Dollywood. He has undergone 13 major surgeries, is slowly shedding his medical machines, and plans to return to school and start a family soon — showing his strong recovery progress.  10 News
