- ➤ A fundraiser for emergency veterinary bills called Tails on Trails: Hike to Save Pets will take place Saturday, Oct. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Baker Creek Preserve, offering a Memorial Walk, optional hike, live music, vendor market, food trucks and adoptable pets. The event, founded by Scott Colby in memory of his cats, will raise $25,000 for the *Nomar and Mia Compassion Fund* and include *Golden Paw awards* for local veterinarians and animal advocates. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Knoxville Pride Fest 2025 is rescheduled for Sunday, Oct. 12 (noon to 8 p.m.) at Capricorn Coffeehouse after an earlier cancellation. The event will have local vendors, live music, and market activities in partnership with Salon Aquarius, Cachepot, and The Herb & Honey. WVLT 8

- ➤ Ijams Nature Center will hold a housewarming on Oct. 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. to showcase its new bat house—designed with multiple roosting chambers to support more than 100,000 Mexican free-tailed bats—at Mead’s Quarry, where bat expert Dr. Gary McCracken will lead a guided walk. 6 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Great Smoky Mountains National Park secured funding to remain open through Oct. 19 — Sevier County recently extended park operations for 10 days through a local coalition — and officials in other states are working to secure funds as the government shutdown continues. 10 News
- ➤ Peyton Manning Pass and Phillip Fulmer Way are closed at 5 a.m. today for the Vol Walk ahead of the Volunteers game at Neyland Stadium, while intermittent lane closures on I-275 will start October 13 and a two-month State Route 113 bridge replacement in Jefferson County will begin October 13 + AAA reported a statewide gas price increase of two cents on average. 6 News
- ➤ Knox County Rescue Squad got over $45,000 from a state grant to buy new safety gear—helmets, gloves, jackets, and boots—for emergencies like water rescues and building collapses. Chief Brian Townsend said the volunteers will also order wetsuits and life vests with the remaining funds. 6 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Thompson Cancer Survival Center will host a 5K race on Nov.2 to honor WBIR anchor emeritus Bill Williams—participants will choose to walk or run while raising funds to start the Bill Williams Excellence Endowment for cancer care. 10 News
- ➤ Knoxville nonprofit Breast Connect is hosting a series of events during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to support fighters and survivors, including a tailgate at Circle Park today and concerts, pickleball, and dining fundraisers throughout October—money raised will go toward care packages, bouquets, and educational resources as the group marks 10 years of service. The events offer a way for locals to help ensure no one has to fight breast cancer alone. 10 News
- ➤ Dr. Ty Prince from the Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Center said fall allergies in East Tennessee are starting earlier (in early August) and the pollen from ragweed and mold has become stronger, causing more patients to have watery eyes, runny noses, and asthma. He warned that these symptoms will likely continue until the first hard freeze. 6 News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Savannah Bananas, known for their dancing baseball shows, will play two games in Knoxville—on May 21, 2026 at Covenant Health Park and on May 23, 2026 at Neyland Stadium, marking the first baseball game at Neyland since it opened in 1921. Most fans will need to enter a ticket lottery with premium seating details announced soon. 10 News
- ➤ Savannah Bananas will bring Banana Ball to Knoxville in 2026—visiting Neyland and Covenant Health Park as they boost local sports interest. 10 News
- ➤ High school football is underway in East TN as teams compete in exciting matchups this season. WBIR’s 10Sports Blitz will show live scores and game highlights every Friday at 11 p.m.—voters can also select the offensive and defensive players of the week. 10 News
