ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A massive explosion leveled Accurate Energetic Systems on October 11, leaving no survivors recovered as Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis said anyone inside is presumed deceased — 16 people remain missing while multiple agencies will investigate the blast and controlled detonations are set to safely dispose of hazardous materials, warning residents to expect more blasts.  WVLT 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Backdoor Tavern was voted Knoxville's best Vols bar—locals say the dive bar earns its top spot with regular bicycle races and visits from Peyton Manning, making it a beloved local hangout.  Knoxville News Sentinel
  • East Tennessee native Elaine Hendrix is performing on Dancing with the Stars — the show spotlights her known roles in The Parent Trap and Dynasty — and she was born in Oak Ridge and raised in Morristown. The actress expands her career with a national television role today.  10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Norfolk Southern’s Safety Train stopped in Knoxville Tuesday for three days of hands-on training for local first responders as part of its Operation Awareness and Response program + the training helped local emergency teams boost their readiness for railway incidents.  WVLT 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • Knoxville native running back DeSean Bishop rushed for a career-high 146 yards and scored a touchdown on 14 carries in a 34 to 31 win against Arkansas Saturday night—he went down with a lower leg injury in the third quarter but walked off the field, and head coach Josh Heupel said he will likely return for next week's game against Alabama.  10 News
  • A group of five motorhomes now tailgates at every home game near the new Smokies Stadium, where Knoxville fans come together as one family—uniting over a shared love of football. LeAnne and Jeff Frost, who have not missed a game since retiring, lead the close-knit team that spans fans from across the country.  10 News
