CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Knoxville police said a suspect speeding after a traffic stop caused a head-on crash Monday at 7:45 p.m. in which four people were injured and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center — Bryant Page now faces charges including aggravated assault and weapon possession. WVLT 8
- ➤ A Sevierville man, 19-year-old Jonathan Matthew Jones, was arrested on two counts of aggravated animal cruelty after he strangled a pit bull and hit a husky with a hammer on Pullen Road Saturday as deputies found the husky with cuts on its face and blood coming from its mouth — animal control removed the injured dogs. - ➤ Federal student loan borrowers experienced scam calls—some receiving more than 25 calls—after the government announced late April it would resume collections on over 42 million loans, and experts advised borrowers to block unknown calls and contact their loan provider directly. 10 News

- ➤ On May 13th, Knoxville City Council approved a new violence interruption contract with the National Institute of Criminal Justice Reform during a meeting at the City-County Building downtown. - ➤ ICE detentions at Knox County Jail jumped to 370 in April—a rise of 319 from last April—records show, and Professor Meghan Conley said the increase reflected changes in enforcement policies rather than more local crimes.
